Exercise 8 - How to write a Book Review

Below is a list of questions that you should consider when writing a book review. Feel free to  submit a book review following this format to info@infomat.net

Getting Started

Below is a series of questions relating to different aspects of a book. If you try and deal
with the majority of these questions you will create a detailed book review that you can share with others.

If you use this as a template for your book review, remember to write in paragraphs rather than just listing the main points or answers.

Plot

What happens in the story?
What is the story about ?
What period of time does the book cover? (For example, is the story about one day, one year or fifty years in the life of a  person?)
What is special about the book?
What is the start of the story like? Were you interested from the very beginning?
What is the ending of the story like? (but don't tell people the ending!)

Character

Who are the main characters?
What are they like? Do you like them?
Are they described in much detail?
What are the relationships between the different characters?
Which character did you closely associate with?

Comments on Style

Is it a good story? Why?
Was the story written in the first or third person?
Is this important to the story?
How descriptive is the book?
Are feelings and attitudes described in depth?
What was your favourite moment in the story? Why?

General

Did you enjoy reading the book?
Did the book provoke any feelings in you?
Did you learn anything from the book?
How would you compare it to other books you've read?
What else do you think is important to say about it?
Have you read any other books by the same author?
