Exercise 3 - Nutrition, The Digestive System and The Heart

Nutrition

Nutrition is the process of consuming, absorbing, and using nutrients needed by the body for growth, development, and the maintenance of life; nutrients are chemical substances in foods that nourish the body.

There are a number of key food groups we need to intake as humans. Below we have listed some characteristics   - can you name the correct food group that relates to each characteristic?

1) They consist of starch and different types of sugar.

2) They are made from fatty acids and glycerol.

3) It helps us cool down when our body temperature rises.

4) They are made up of amino acids.

5) They are the main source of energy?

6) They are used to store energy and for warmth (insulation).

7) Chemical reactions in the human body take place in this.

8) It is not actually digested but it helps food move through your system.

9) We need this mineral to make haemoglobin.

10) We need this mineral for healthy bones and teeth.

11) This vitamin hardens your bones.

12) This vitamin prevents scurvy.

13) These help repair and replace damaged cells.

14) This vitamin helps build immunity against illnesses and aids good eyesight.

15) This vitamin improves the flow of blood and aids the skin.

Digestion is the process of breaking down large, insoluble molecules into small, soluble molecules so that they can be absorbed into the bloodstream.
