Key Stage 1 - National Test Guide

Key Stage 1 tests take place in your normal classroom as part of your regular classroom activity. There are no time limits and the test is split into two main parts:

English Test
The English test is broken down into several sections or tasks to cover all the basic areas.

1. Reading Task
You will be expected to read a set passage with a degree of fluency and accuracy.

 2. Reading Comprehension Task and Extension Test
You will be expected to read a story and some other texts. Then you will be asked some questions to show you have understood everything.

3. Writing Task
You will be expected to use punctuation, spell correctly and write legibly.

4. Spelling Test
You will be presented with a passage with words missing or pictures in place of words. You will be expected to spell those missing words correctly.

Mathematics Test
Again the mathematics test is broken down  - this time there are only two sections.

1. Test A
This is an oral test (spoken not written) where you will be asked a series of questions regarding practical activities and situations.

2. Test B
This is a written test where you will be expected to answer a series of questions.
