Why work in Fashion?

Fashion entails many different jobs from modelling to retail and fashion designing. Globalisation of the industry during the 20th Century has also opened up other opportunities in different fields. With such a wide variety of jobs available and a rapidly expanding market the fashion industry has become increasingly appealing to work in, with opportunities in many companies for promotion.

There are many different areas of fashion including clothes, cosmetics, shoes and accessories. As fashion constantly changes, Senior people in the fashion world must attend fashion shows in Milan, Paris and London to gain new ideas and inspiration for future trends.

Fashion retail is a rapidly expanding industry, offering excellent job prospects with three million people employed in retail in the United Kingdom. There are thousands of shops and stores selling everything from designer clothes and shoes to exquisite jewellery and accessories, and all of these businesses offer a variety of careers.

Many people working in fashion retail start as a sales assistant and progress onto supervisory, departmental management and store management positions. On the job training is offered a majority of companies, to increase staff knowledge and experience. There are also Management programmes, however, enabling trainees to fast track to more Senior positions.

Arcadia offer management programmes to fast track their trainees into Management positions. Click on the “School Leavers” section to find out more.
