The pack is aimed at teachers of Foundation Stage through to Key Stages 1 & 2, and is available on an interactive CD.

Developed by practising primary teachers (and fully mapped with the National Curriculum) the pack will help to promote:

  • rescue dogs and cats

  • responsible pet ownership

There are over 30 lesson ideas and worksheets which will help to deliver the following subjects:

  • PSHE/Citizenship

  • Literacy

  • History

  • Art and Design

  • Design and Technology

Included in the pack is a full colour poster - 'entitled 'The Journey' (which follows a dog and cat through their time here at the Home). It also includes a film about the Home's work, other posters to download and a photos resource of dogs and cats who have stayed at the Home previously.

For your own FREE copy of the pack please contact Steph Collis or telephone 0207 627 7875.

Please note that this resource is available to teachers only.

The Battersea Code....for children

Battersea have designed a range of leaflets ('The Battersea Code') focussing on all aspects of life with dogs and cats. The leaflets are aimed specifically at children. We currently have four titles available in this series:

Caring for a dog:
This leaflet focuses on basic advice about looking after a dog and things to consider if you are thinking of getting a dog. The leaflet includes lots of 'top tips' and 'fantastic facts' about dogs

Safety with dogs:
This leaflet has two main sections. The first discusses how best to approach a dog and what to do if you ever get frightened by a dog. The second, shows some illustrations of some basic dog body language to help you try to understand what a dog might be saying.

Caring for a cat:
This leaflet focuses on basic advice about looking after a cat and things to consider if you are thinking of getting a cat. The leaflet includes lots of 'top tips' and 'fantastic facts' about cats.

Understanding a Cat:
This leaflet has two main sections. The first shows some illustration of basic cat body language to help us understand cats. The second is entitled 'Why does my Cat' and answers some common queries about cats behaviour.

These Battersea Code leaflets can be downloaded from the website at: www.dogshome.org/rescue/leaflets or by contacting Steph Collis.

Activity Sheets

We have also produced a range of educational activity sheets which are bright, colourful and fun. They incorporate an educational element whilst promoting responsible pet ownership. Themes include What to think about before you get a dog or cat, seasonal advice on pet care on pet care e.g. fireworks and summer holidays, as well different dog and cat breeds.

These will shortly be available to download from the website but in the meantime please contact Steph Collis.

Overseas Education Booklet

Battersea Dogs & Cats Home, Dogs Trust and North Shore Animal League International, have produced an overseas education booklet for young people. The booklet has been written in English to help with language skills and focuses on street dog issues such as the benefits of neutering dogs. There are lots of activities, which can be completed individually or within a classroom. The booklet follows the basis of English and Social studies classes. Order your free copy of this Overseas Education booklet by emailing sos dogs
