BT Apprenticeships

As a BT Apprentice, you get the best of both worlds. You earn a proper salary but carry on learning at the same time. Because this learning is on the job, you'll also get the first-hand practical skills that you wouldn't pick up behind a desk. And if you hit your targets, you're guaranteed a permanent job at the end of it. Apprenticeships are not just for “traditional” occupations such as bricklaying and plumbing. BT’s advanced Apprenticeship programmes are in Information Technology, Technical, Fleet Service and Business Management. They also offer higher Apprenticeship opportunities in IT Installation, and for Service Technicians.

With offices in most major towns and cities throughout the UK, BT probably has the opportunity you want, where you want. There are some roles that are only available in specific places, so it's worth looking at the locations available before choosing what you apply for.

Whatever area of BT’s business you choose to work in, each Apprenticeship takes roughly the same shape. You'll attend workshops, complete online courses and complete college work to get your qualifications. There'll also be on-the-job training and hands-on practical experience in your day-to-day role.

Your line manager will sit down with you to work out a personal development plan and you be monitored by them throughout.

If you're an advanced apprentice, you'll be given days off work to study for an NVQ level 3, key/core skills qualification and a BTEC (or similar) further education qualification or technical certificate. We will also give you the support you need to take a Foundation Degree in IT.

As your career develops, BT can also help you become a member of a relevant professional body, like the Institute of Electrical Engineers or the British Computer Society.

You can get job-related, technical and professional development through the BT Academy. Most of your training is on the job or in your local area, but there will be times when you go away to college training courses at various learning centres in the UK. You will have an en suite bedroom to yourself and your meals paid for - all to keep you in the perfect frame of mind for learning.
