The
Dentist
The dentist is a doctor who is specially
trained to care for teeth. When you visit your dentist for a
check-up, he or she will look at your teeth and gums to check
for any problems. The dentist also wants to make sure your
teeth are developing properly as you grow. It is the dentist
who performs all of the various procedures which you may
require on your teeth during your lifetime. It's important to
visit your dentist every 6 months to make sure you're taking
good care of your teeth and that your teeth and gums are
healthy. The dentist may also have an assistant at their
side to help carry out check-ups and help you with your visit. |

The
Hygienist
Dental hygienists are your partners in health. They are
health care professionals who teach you how to keep your
mouth, teeth, and gums healthy. They also can let you know if
they see signs of other health problems. Your dental hygienist
will examine your mouth, teeth, and gums. He or she will clean
your teeth and may take X rays. Cleaning consists mainly
of removing hard deposits using a scaler (a scraping
instrument) or an ultrasonic machine, which uses
high-frequency sound waves to loosen plaque deposits. The
particles are then rinsed off with water. You can ask your
dental hygienist any questions you have about your teeth and
gums.
The
Receptionist
The Receptionist is your first port of call at the dental
surgery. He or she is there to arrange your appointments and
greet you as you arrive at the surgery before you go through
to see the dentist. The receptionist will usually have various
products available for you to purchase if your dentist
recommends something which would be beneficial to your teeth.
