Humans & Water

Why is water so important?

Here at Eden Springs we understand that water is a vital life source just as much as the air we breath. Like education itself, it is fundamental to the development of both individuals and society as a whole.

So to keep one step ahead and to stay healthy, we need to maintain our bodies optimum water levels. The human body is approximately 70% water, listed below are some interesting facts about our organs:

Organ Function Weighting
The Blood Plasma (Main body component) is approximately 92% water
The Human Foetus (Our growing physical vehicle) is approximately 90% water
The Blood (Life fluid and Nutrient conveyor) can be up to 90% water
The Human Brain Cells (Intellect, Creativity, Behaviour) are approximately 85% water
The Kidneys (Fluid processors and Purifiers) are approximately 82% water
The Muscles (Prime movers of the Body) have an average of 75% water
The Body (our abode on Earth) is approximately 70% water
The Liver (Metabolism and Detoxifying) is approximately 69% water
The Bones (Structural support system) are approximately 22% water
The Bodies Cells and Fluids (basis for growth & Development) are MAINLY WATER

The human body can go without food for about 5 days, however if we go without water for just 2-3 days then we will begin to experience serious health problems due to dehydration.

Dehydration is the loss of body water. Dehydration presents itself in a progression from thirst, fatigue, weakness, then delirium, coma, and finally death. Each and everyone’s environment, such as temperature and humidity, will determine the rate of progression. Believe it or not, thirst is a poor indicator of hydration. By the time we feel thirsty we are already dehydrated and have lost about 2% of our body water. To return to normal hydration, we need to consume twice the amount of water it takes to quench thirst.

Dehydration is a major contributing factor to fatigue, which can lead some people to turn to food for energy.

Minerals

To illustrate how much water you would need to drink to get your RDA (Recommended Daily Allowances) of minerals. For RDA requirements you would have to consume daily:

169 8 ounce glasses of water to get your RDA of calcium.
338,176 8 ounce glasses of water to receive your RDA of phosphorus.
676 8 ounce glasses of tap water to obtain the (RDA) of calcium.
1,848 8 ounce glasses of water to get the RDA of magnesium.
848 8 ounce glasses of water to get the RDA of iron.
168,960 8 ounce glasses of water to obtain the RDA of phosphorus.
