SILVER
HEALING™

Within modern hospitals silver is a widely accepted
powerful antiseptic aiding the successful treatment of
serious wounds. It optimises the natural wound healing
process, destroying and minimising the spread of
bacteria and therefore protecting wounds from infection.
This scientifically proven treatment method has now been
adapted by advanced wound care expert Elastoplast® in
the pioneering form of SILVERHEALING™ technology to
provide this highly protective wound care treatment in
the home.
Silver has been used for centuries to prevent
and to treat a variety of diseases, mostly infections.
In ancient Greece and Rome and the middle ages it was
used to disinfect water and food while in storage, as
well as for the treatment of burns and wounds as wound
dressings.
Throughout the last centuries silver has been
used as an antimicrobial agent and the efficacy and
safety of this metal has been well established. In the
18th century Karl S. F. Crédé developed silver gauze for
wound dressing.
The US Food and Drug Administration approved
silver solutions in the 1920s for use as antibacterial
agents.
Today silver containing wound dressings are well
established for clinical wound care.

healing:

On contact
with moisture in the wound, silver ions are released
destroying bacterial cell structures and inhibiting
their function, killing harmful germs and reducing the
risk of infection. |
