Eucerin
The Eucerin Brand -
from Beautiful
Wax to Medical Skin Care (international history)
Eucerin Skincare Experts base their knowledge on
over 100 years of experience with cosmetic technology and
therapeutic skincare treatments.
The story of Eucerin began in 1900 with a
ground-breaking innovation. Isaac Lifschütz, a chemist, started
a medical revolution. The researcher created a very smooth basic
ointment used as a vehicle for stable emulsions calling it
Eucerin - the beautiful wax. Professor Unna, a founding father
of modern dermatology, had very high standards for ointments: it
had to keep well and have a stable, smooth consistency, as well
as provide protection and care without irritation. In 1907, Dr.
Unna lauded the innovation when he euphorically wrote: „Eucerin
is agreeable for the pharmacist due to its stable and smooth
consistency, easily prescribed by the doctor and it creates a
good feeling for the patient due to its smoothness and cooling
effect.“
Eucerit was marketed as an emulsifying agent from
1903 onwards. In 1911, Dr. Troplowitz
acquired the patent rights
for Beiersdorf and launched the first product featuring the
substance – Eucerin Powder. Eucerin Soap followed in 1930.
The next milestone came in 1950 with the birth of pH5 Eucerin
Cream, the first product of its kind to focus on the importance
of the skin's own natural protective acid barrier in maintaining
skin health. Today, this aspect still plays a key role in
dermatological skin care and in international research circles.
In the 1970s, Eucerin achieved all-round success with its
dermatological body lotions pH5 Eucerin Intensive Lotion and
Lotion F.
In the 1990s, the "Laceran" brand became the
company's first products for dry problem skin, offering
effective treatment that is easy and pleasant to apply -
dermatological agents incorporated into state-of-the-art
ointments. Since 1988, Eucerin and Laceran products have both
been marketed under Eucerin. Today, Eucerin offers
dermatological skincare products for a variety of skin types
designed for preventive protection, as well as treatment.
Since the late '90's, Eucerin has focused on
rapid product innovation. In 1994, Eucerin entered a new product
category with the development of pH5 Shower Oil, the first
shower oil to protect skin from dryness during cleansing. In
1996, Eucerin entered the most important area of skin care -
face - and continued to develop one innovation after the next:
from cleansing and care products for problem skin (Eucerin Dry
Skin, Impure Skin, and Anti-Redness) to highly effective
Anti-Age products developed using the highest dermatological
standards (from the first clinically proven anti-wrinkle cream,
Q10 Active, to the cosmetic dermatology inspired next generation
anti-wrinkle treatment, Hyaluron-Filler).
In the UK, Eucerin started by launching its Dry
Skin range in 1996 and followed suit with the Sensitive Skin
(Face Care) range in 2003, which now includes innovative
Anti-Redness products.
Today, Eucerin
is a recognised expert skincare brand
designed to fulfill the needs of various skin problems. Through
working with dermatologists and using their technical expertise,
Eucerin ensures reliable and highly effective product
