First News,
an inspiring, educational and educational
weekly national newspaper and website for
children, was launched in May 2006. The
publishers. Newsbridge , the publisher,
aimed to create a publication to project
children’s views and opinions. Children’s
charities would benefit from the proceeds.
The Newsbridge management team comprises
newspaper editor Piers Morgan and Nicky Cox,
former editorial director of BBC Children's
Magazines with a steering role from
investors Steve and Sarah Jane Thomson.
The launch of First News was held in
Downing Street supported by famous guests
such as The Right Honourable Gordon Brown,
Prince Harry, Sir Richard Branson (who is a
First News contributor) and David
Beckham.

First News presents the important stories in an
easy and understandable way, designed to stimulate
inquisitive children’s minds, the same children that
will grow up to become influential citizens.
Feedback from the children as well as their schools
has been overwhelming and getting children into the
habit of reading at an early age and developing
their awareness of the world will stand them in good
stead all of their lives.

The
concept of First News is supported by the
National Reading Campaign. "Giving children access
to a variety of reading materials is essential in
helping them develop as independent and enthusiastic
readers. First News has broadened the range
of what children are offered to read by giving them
access to - and a voice within - news and current
affairs.”
There has been an overwhelming response to the
newspaper from schools as well as the children.
Getting children into the habit of reading and
learning from the world around them will stand them
in good stead for the rest of their lives.
