Keeping Cool Through the Ages:   A Timeline of "Gillette Firsts"

Although efforts to control perspiration date back 2000 years with literary references to aromatic oils that masked unpleasant body odours, the first trademarked deodorant wasn't introduced until 1888 and the first anti-perspirant in 1900. In the years since, the effort to "keep cool" has come a long way.

The Gillette Company's technological innovations range from 1959's introduction of the first aerosol deodorant to the current odour control system - Right Guard® Xtreme Sport™ anti-perspirant and deodorant.

1959 First aerosol deodorant.
1965 First aerosol anti-perspirant.
1980s Gillette introduces enhanced efficacy ACH [aluminium chlorohydrate] for aerosols and enhanced aluminium zirconium for solids and roll-ons.
1992 Gillette introduces ClearGel technology to category with Gillette Series. ClearGel was the first new form of underarm protection in more than two decades. ClearGel leaves no white, chalky residue.

1993 Gillette extends Gillette Series ClearGel technology to its popular Right Guard, Soft & Dri and Dry Idea brands.
1996 Gillette introduces the first truly clear anti-perspirant and deodorant solid stick. Introduced in its Right Guard and Gillette Series brands, Clear Stick technology provides maximum effectiveness without messy white residue.
1996 Gillette introduces Soft & Dri Silken Solid, the first anti-perspirant containing real silk for a soft, smooth-silky, application.
2000 Gillette introduces an invisible solid formula to its Right Guard brand with the introduction of Right Guard Xtreme Sport. Targeted to active young men, these anti-perspirants are designed to fight odour and offer protection even when men push themselves to their limit.

2002 Gillette introduces Right Guard Xtreme Sport Power Stripe -- a breakthrough odour control system concentrated in a distinct green stripe that goes on clear with no residue. Advanced Power Stripe technology is also featured in the Company's Gillette Series and Soft & Dri brands.
