Festival of Speed
The annual Goodwood
Festival of Speed has established itself as the world's biggest
celebration of the motor car. With 158,000 visitors attending the
event, the Festival, which takes place in the beautiful parkland
surroundings in front of Goodwood House attracts unique cars and
legendary drivers from all over the world.
|
Indeed, it is the only event that
most of the current Formula One teams attend outside of a Grand
Prix. The Goodwood Revival, held in September, represents a
magical step back in time to the romance and glamour of motor
racing as it used to be, and is widely regarded as the greatest
historic motor racing event in the world. |
 |
Just under 100,000 visitors close the
door to the modern world for three days to experience the great old
days of motor racing in dramatic and theatrical style.
The Junior Festival of Speed, is full of
fun activities for kids aged from 2 to12. There are lots of things for
children to do. Among the most popular attractions have been:
The Wacky Races – see the colourful
characters from the Wacky Races© come to life and parade up the
hillclimb in life-size working cars. There are now six fully working
vehicles: Penelope Pitstop’s Compact Pussycat, Peter Perfect’s Turbo
Terrific, Dastardly & Muttley’s Mean Machine, the Gruesome Twosome’s
Creepy Coupe, Professor Pat Pending’s Convert-A-Car and the Slag
Brothers’ Boulder Mobile. Check the News pages to hear about the
latest Wacky Racer to be chosen to join this weird and wonderful group
of characters! (©Dastardly &

Imagine what it would be like to
design your own fantasy car, and see it come to life at the
Goodwood Revival! That dream came true for Cameron Lockie who was
the lucky winner of the 2003 Junior Festival of Speed Incredible
Goodwood Create-A-Car competition. |
 |
At the end of the Revival weekend,
he was driven around the circuit in a full-size working interpretation
of his original sketch, with none other than Sir Stirling Moss at the
wheel. The competition comprised of four age categories altogether,
consisting of 0-6years, 7-8 years, 9-10 years, 11-12 years, and the
standard of the competition was extremely high, producing some
excellent designs. The Incredible Goodwood Create-A-Car will take
place again in 2004 in the Junior Festival of Speed marquee next to
the cricket pitch. To enter it is a £1 a go and all proceeds go to the
Festival of Speed official charity for 2004.
