The Aerodrome, a former WWII
fighter station, is one of the busiest general aviation airfields in
the South of England with its own hangerage, maintenance, full-time
flight information service and highly prestigious and well-established
flying school.

On
this same site is the world-famous Goodwood Motor Circuit, founded
by the 9th Duke of Richmond in 1948.
In
the autumn of 1998 a huge and detailed renovation programme was
completed which restored the circuit to its former glory exactly
fifty years after the inaugural meeting in September 1948.
The
restoration programme has recreated the look and feel of the
1950s, producing a unique setting both for the Goodwood Revival,
and for track days and other exciting activities throughout the
year. |

Goodwood’s renowned Flying School offers excellent insights into
aviation for children and students. Special flights over Chichester
Harbour are run for schools and activity groups. Day visits to
Goodwood Aerodrome to learn about general aviation can also be
arranged. Young visitors can visit air traffic control, Goodwood
Aircraft Engineering and the Flying School. Group visits include a
tour of the aviation departments and a 15-minute flight, all for £19
per student – minimum of 10 students. Children are permitted to
undergo training to learn to fly, but any flight time logged before
the age of fourteen may not count towards licence requirements. A
student may not fly solo until age sixteen, or hold a licence until
age seventeen.
The new Goodwood Aero Club is a must for any young aviation
enthusiasts, with junior membership offering exclusive access to the
historic wartime Spitfires, Hurricanes and Mustangs at the Goodwood
Revival; the opportunity to go on aerial adventures all over Europe,
and the chance to enjoy pleasure flights in vintage aircraft, as well
as visits to air shows and aircraft museums; a regular newsletter and
members’ website pages, plus discounted tickets for the Goodwood
Festival of Speed and Revival. |
