1800 - 1969
 
 

1889 – 1977:
Charlie Chaplin became the first true superstar of the silver screen through such classics as 1921’s The Kid and A King In New York, 1957.


 
 

1915 – 1998:
Legendary crooner Frank Sinatra was one of the 20th century’s most iconic performers. Starting out as a singer in New Jersey saloons, Ol’ Blue Eyes, as he was known, went on set the silver screen alight. He's best remembered for sixties collaborations with Rat Pack buddies Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr.



 
 

1926 – 1962:
A cult figure thanks to her glittering movie career, Marilyn Monroe became an icon for several generations. In 1999 she was voted the sexiest woman of the 20th century.


 
 

1935 – 1977:
Over 30 hit singles and dozens of successful movies helped make Elvis Presley a 20th-century legend. Today The King's image remains as alive as when he gyrated across the stage in Las Vegas.


 
 

1963 – 1969:
The Beatles rocked the entire world in the sixties. Racking up number one after number one, and going on to make several successful films, they soon became the most successful band of the 20th century.
