Breathing Difficulties
Breathing difficulties can be caused by a range of conditions and ailments including asthma,
bronchiolitis or pneumonia. If your child has breathing difficulties you MUST consult your doctor as soon as possible. Below is a list of symptoms that indicate URGENT MEDICAL ATTENTION is needed. In these cases you should call 999 immediately.
- The sufferer is unnaturally drowsy.
- The sufferer has a blue colouring around their mouth and lips.
- The sufferer is so short of breath that they cannot speak.
- The sufferer is wheezing but getting quieter and quieter as they struggle for breath.
What to do
Ring your doctor for advice or dial 999 for an ambulance.
If your child seems to be having only minor breathing problems, ring your doctor for an appointment
on that same day.
