Constipation

Constipation can be quite a common problem in babies and children for a variety of reasons. It can occur when babies consume solids for the first time and it is also more common in babies that are bottle fed. In addition a general lack of fibre, in particular, fruit and vegetables can lead to constipation in children. A lack of fluids will only worsen the situation.

What to do

- Increase the sufferer's fluid intake, particularly fruit juices.
- Encourage your child to eat more fruit and vegetables.
- There are a wide range of commercial products available. Ask your Pharmacist.
- If you are in doubt, or if the problem persists, consult your doctor.
