Insect Bites

Every child will be bitten or stung at one time. There are two main areas of concern. Firstly the threat posed thorough infection of the bite. This is easily remedied through soap and water. The second area of concern is surrounding an allergic reaction. If an allergic reaction occurs to an insect bite you must dial 999 immediately or take your child to casualty.

What to Do

Comfort your child. In the case of a bee sting, try and remove the sting without pulling. Try and scrape it away. Apply an ice pack and eventually a sting reliever. If there is excessive itching use an anti-histamine (ask your doctor first).

Watch out for an allergic reaction involving large amounts of swelling, trouble breathing,
hives or a rash, nausea.
