Mumps

Mumps is typically spread through the air by either coughing or sneezing. Mumps is particularly infectious and remains so for a period of up to three weeks, covering before and after mumps is first diagnosed.

The distinctive swelling of the cheeks follows a period where the sufferer has a high temperature and a general ill feeling.

The infectious period is from 7 days before to 9 days after the cheek swelling begins. Hence the incubation period is approximately 14-21 days in total.
