Working in Food Manufacturing
The food and drinks industry is huge. It has a turnover of over £66 billion each year, employs over 650,000 people across the UK, in more than 30,000 businesses. As you might expect with an industry of this size and scale, the opportunities to get involved and work in food and drinks manufacturing are both widespread and varied.

Apprenticeships
An apprenticeship is a work-based learning programme for young people aged between 16 and 24 years of age. It provides them with the first step towards a long-term career. Learning Materials
Improve are actively developing a suite of customised learning materials specifically designed to address key issues within the Food & Drink industry. These cover a range of topics including Management, HACCP and Food Safety. We have also developed a unique training workshop on Cultural Diversity in the Workplace and an effective diagnostic tool for those manufacturers wishing to ascribe to the principles of Lean Manufacturing.

Qualifications
Qualifications for the Food and Drink Sector cover a wide range of operations as well as food hygiene and food safety. Qualifications are available at levels one to three and can be delivered and assessed in the workplace (S/NVQs) or used to give the technical knowledge and understanding needed to do a job (VRQs). If you are an employer, employee, student or HR professional interested in learning more about Qualifications.

Standards
National Occupational Standards are developed by employers and outline all the skills, knowledge and abilities employees need to work in the Food and Drink Sector. Just think how useful such a resource could be to your business and how much time it could save you.

The on-going development of skills is the single most important factor in determining business success in today’s rapidly evolving and constantly changing global economy.

Consequently, Improve are developing a range of learning materials that have been specifically designed by specialists from within the food and drink sector to help companies of any size address the question of skills development.

Improve are also closely involved in the Cross Sector work of the Skills for Business Network, established by the Sector Skills Development Agency to address skills issues that are common to all sectors of industry within the UK.

These include areas such as Management & Leadership, IT, Sustainability and Employability. The benefits of this work will be available on the Improve web site.
