art of creating banquets and compositions from flowers,
herbs, foliages, ornamental grasses and other botanical
materials into floral designs.

florist. There are various skills entailed in
floristry, knowing how to cut, treat and arrange
flowers, knowing which flowers would look best
together and also keeping the flowers fresh is
important. Knowing how to form wreaths and other
important arrangements are also crucial for special

There are customer expectations and requirements
involved with floristry, with customers often purchasing
flowers for special occasions such as Christmas,
Valentines Day, Funerals and Weddings. Although
occasions make up a large part of the business, the sale
of house plants and flowers are a much more constant.
There are many different factors which may affect flower
arranging, each season brings different colours and
different flowers, fashions change from time to time
resulting the demand for certain flowers changing and
holidays and events may increase the demand for a
certain type of flower, such as poppies which represent
the fallen soldiers only in England and Commonwealth
countries.
