Outreach
The National Gallery is committed to developing its
out-of-school provision, fostering a number of creative
partnerships with the local and wider community.
Young people in under-privileged areas are targeted in a special
outreach programme, extending opportunity for new quality
experiences, providing positive role models; and encouraging
sustainable access to the National Gallery Collection.
Events are wide ranging, and have included work with artists
both in the Gallery and off-site. All focus on partnerships with
schools characterised by high levels of deprivation, and aim to
support the issue of social inclusion.
Events in the
Gallery
There are always events for everyone to enjoy at the National
Gallery. These include one-hour Guided Tours of collection
highlights, as well as Picture in Focus talks (25 mins) and Ten
Minute Talks about a single painting.
There is also music on Wednesdays and regular films which relate
to the permanent collection and temporary exhibitions. One-off
special events can also be found in the calendar.

The National Gallery provides free family talks at weekends and
drawing activities on the second weekend of every month.
During the holidays there are Magic Carpet storytelling sessions
for under-5s, art workshops for families with children aged 5–11
and twilight art workshops for 12–16s.
