Facial skincare is a high priority to most women but you have skin all over your body and it deserves just as much attention. The skin is thicker in some areas, such as on your back and feet and thinner on others such as the knees and elbows and therefore these areas require different care.

Across Europe the concept of body care is well established and women continue to care for their skin all year round, selecting specific products for different usage occasions and body areas. In the UK on the other hand, body care is seasonal and peaks between May and September when women rush to get their skin in shape for the summer sun. The fact is, if you adopt a year round approach to body care, when the temperature rises you could be the first to reveal your beautifully soft, healthy looking skin.

The Regime

The secret to baby soft skin is a regime which includes regular exfoliation and moisturisation. As well as helping to remove dead skin cells, exfoliation will increase the blood flow making it easier for the lymph glands to excrete any toxins. You can either use a body scrub and smooth over the skin in small circular movements working towards the heart or use an exfoliating sponge and use alongside your favourite shower gel. NIVEA body Exfoliating Scrub purifies and tones the skin removing dead skin cells and leaving it softer.

The skin on your body is constantly wrapped up in clothes and is susceptible to dryness and irritation. As your body moves, fabrics rub against your skin, soaking up the protective layer of sebum and eroding away the top layer epidermal skin cells. Moisturising is the most essential way to avoid dry, flaky skin. Regular moisturising will nourish and protect your skin, keeping it smooth and healthy looking. Interestingly, the skins responds to moisturising, so the more regularly you moisturise, the better your skin will look and feel. Moisturising after a bath or shower is a particularly good time for body care as the moisture is sealed into the skin.

All body care routines should include at least an effective basic body moisturiser which is applied daily, all over the body. This can help break down toxins in the skin and ensure a smooth even skin tone. Products should be selected to match your skin type so if you have Dry Skin opt for a moisturiser that offers intensive, rich care and if skin is sensitive go for a product which has soothing properties and offers delicate care. There are also products available that supply your skin with more than just moisture. For example; NIVEA body Sunkissed skin not only improves the skin’s firmness but also gradually builds a natural tan over 4 weeks! Within the modern body care market many true innovations and scientifically proven products are available offering to enhance the skins natural appearance. Night Creams that take advantage of the skins natural night time renewal process and multi-active propositions are good examples of these advanced, high performing body products.

But do not forget to care for  your hands. 60% of women have dry, chapped hands and this is because the hands are continually exposed to the environment and are often the most active part of the body. Regular hand care use can minimise skin roughness and delay the early signs of ageing to leave you with silky soft hands. Although hand care is relatively new to the UK there are many products available that suit all different usage occasions and needs; protecting, replenishing, age defying, day and night care propositions are just a few.

For those of you that still find skin care just too complicated but still want to care for your skin, All Purpose moisturisers can be applied to the face, hands and body – perfectly simple.
