Oily skin tends to be greasy and shiny, especially on the forehead, chin and nose. This is due to over-productive sebaceous glands. Our skin needs naturally produced sebum in order to stay healthy, but when the glands produce too much, pores can get blocked and spots can develop.

NIVEA VISAGE Oil Free Moisturising Fluid provides essential moisture, whilst absorbing excess oil, giving you a subtle mattified complexion.

Where does oily skin come from?

It's simple: the sebaceous glands are overactive Our skin needs natural sebum production to stay healthy, but oily skin can produce too much sebum. The result: shiny facial skin and potentially blocked pores.

Also, climatic conditions such as high humidity and hot temperatures may result in shiny skin. This, of course, is mainly due to increased sweat rather than too much sebum. Nevertheless, shine or oil control products help.

Oily skin is a problem often encountered by young people, usually arising after puberty once the hormones have kicked in.

Too much of a good thing
Our skin needs natural sebum production to stay healthy - this maintains the skin's natural hydrolipidic film. About 12% of people produce too much sebum - this can block the pores, that can lead to blackheads and spots. Sebaceous glands are particularly concentrated on the forehead, chin, nose, neckline and back. Our skin's natural fat is not an enemy which we should destroy and cover up with excessive powder. What is important is to re-establish the natural balance between fat and moisture without placing an additional strain on the skin. Mild cleansing products designed for oily skin maintain the natural hydrolipidic film and reduce the oiliness while oil-free moisturisers provide light moisture without leaving greasy residues.
