Sensitive skin is easily irritated and is prone to sensations like burning, itching, and a feeling of tightness. This is a consequence of both external & internal factors i.e. stress, tension, hereditary tendencies, dry air, frequent washing, exposure to sensitising substances, too much sun, excessive bath and shower routines.

More and more people - approx. one third of the population - now suffer from sensitive skin. Strictly speaking, sensitive skin is not a scientific or dermatological diagnosis. Dermatologists have difficulty in establishing a definition for the term: some see it as dry skin, others consider it to be skin that reacts easily to internal or external factors or is prone to allergies.

Usually, sensitive skin results from damage to the natural protective barrier. This means that the skin dries out more quickly and is more likely to react with a rash to various substances (e.g. perfume, detergents or soap). Dry and sensitive skin also usually produces too little fat.

What can I do?If the skin's barrier has been damaged, irritants can penetrate the skin much more easily, sometimes causing strong reactions. Even otherwise harmless substances can have an adverse effect, if they can penetrate the skin surface. That's why it is important to strengthen the skin's natural barrier layer with targeted skincare. NIVEA VISAGE skincare products especially for this skin type provide your skin with plenty of moisture and support regeneration of the damaged barrier layer.

The NIVEA VISAGE range includes cleansing and care, which have been specially developed for dry and sensitive skin. They are formulated to gently cleanse and refresh your skin, provide moisturisation and help restore the skin's natural moisture balance.
