The Eye-EDUCATE suite
of applications are available for schools and pupils to utilise digital
maps and GIS.
Eye-EDUCATE is available as a series of web-hosted applications
empowering the use of geographical data, both within the school and at
home, via the Internet. Data from a wide variety of sources can be
displayed within the Eye-EDUCATE suite, including Ordnance Survey
datasets. Most common data formats are supported, including ArcView® (SHP),
MapInfo® (MIF/MID), AutoCAD® (DWG, DXFTM)

Mapping
Skills
Mapping Skills is a
skill-and-drill program that uses Ordnance Survey map extracts to teach
map reading.
Map extracts for the following scales
are used:
- 1:10 000
- 1:25 000
- 1:50 000
- Land-Line
As the maps are
licensed Ordnance Survey products the students will get experience in
the classroom of dealing with the type of maps that they will come
across ‘in the field’. A range of lesson options are available, which
can be tailored to suit the amount of classroom time.
The program is
interactive and varied. The students are given hints and tips; the
program can be set to correct the student's work and all their results
can be stored so that a teacher can check on the progress of the class.
