QUIT is
the UK charity that saves lives by helping smokers to stop. QUIT
runs the Quitline, a freephone service that lets callers
speak to trained counsellors about stopping smoking. Most
callers are smokers who want help kicking the habit. But
smokers’ friends and family, and anyone affected by smoking, are
welcome to call for a chat. QUIT also runs Asian Quitline
and the Break Free schools programme, which takes QUIT’s
work into the classroom.

History
QUIT was founded in
1926 as the National Society of Non-smokers (NSNS). The Quitline was
launched in 1990 and went freephone in 1995. The freephone Asian
Quitline followed in 1997.
Contact Us
To speak to QUIT’s friendly trained counsellors, who
can offer advice and information, call the Quitline free on 0800
00 22 00. Call this number if you want to stop smoking or if
you’re thinking about it. Talking through your options can be a huge
help. You should also call this number if you want to help a friend
or relative to quit or for information on products and services that
can help smokers stop.
QUIT now operates an e-counselling service
too. This puts you in touch with the same counsellors, and the same
quality of information and advice. Many people like the human
contact a phone call offers. But we appreciate that many others
prefer the anonymity of e-mail. To use this service, e-mail
stopsmoking@quit.org.uk.
You
can reach the QUIT office on 020 7251 1551. You should call
this number if you’re a teacher and you want to find out more about
QUIT’s publications and services.
