On March 2004, the newly restored John Madejski Fine Rooms at Burlington House, opened to the public. Visitors can savour a suite of neoclassical interiors that have remained hidden for over two centuries, enjoying a journey into the cultural politics of the 18th century and the birthplace of a new architectural style.

The rooms now house items from the RA’s own magnificent collection of nearly 850 paintings, 350 sculptures and 6000 architectural drawings, including works by Constable, Turner, and Hockney, dating back to the foundation of the Academy in 1768.

The Tennant Room will host changing themed exhibitions of works within the RA’s collection

Michelangelo’s Taddei Tondo, the only sculpture by Michelangelo in Britain, is on permanent display outside the Sackler Galleries

The Little Dancer, by Degas, is on loan to the RA and can be seen in the Reynolds Room.

Gallery talks of the Fine Rooms are available for schools
