Capacity
Capacity is like volume. How much can containers hold?
Here we measure capacity in litres (l) and millilitres (ml) or centilitres (cl).

1 litre = 1000ml = 1000cm3
1 litre = 100 centilitres


Q1. A medicine bottle holds ½ litre of cough medicine:
(a) How many ml is this?
(b) How many 10ml doses will this bottle hold?


Q2. A barrel of beer holds 8 litres:
(a) How many ml is this?
(b) How many 400ml glasses can be filled from this barrel?

Q3. A carton of juice is = 2000ml:
a) How many 50ml cups can be filled from the carton?
b) When split into 4 equal measures, how many litres will each measure be?


Weight
Weight is measured using tonnes, kilograms and grams.

1 kg = 1000g
1 tonne = 1000kg


Q1. What is the weight in grams of a tub of butter weighing 1½ kg?

Q2. What is the weight in kg of a pack containing 4 tubs of butter?

Q3. If a lorry weighs 3.5 tonnes, how many kilograms does the lorry weigh?

Q4. How many grams would the 3.5 tonne lorry weigh?

2.54cm = 1.00 inches (about 1 inch)
30cm = 0.98 feet (about 1 foot)
1 metre = 1.09 yards (about 1 yard)
8 kilometres = 4.31 miles (about 4 and a half miles)
1 litre = 1.82 pints
