South East and East Asia
There have been rapid economic changes in most countries in South-East and
East Asia. As the market takes force the state had reduced. The governments
are spending less on social sectors resulting in children being affected
such as street children, working children, children from ethnic minorities,
disabled children and children who have been infected by HIV or AID.
Save the Children works in eight countries in the area:
Cambodia
China
Indonesia
Laos
Myanmar
Mangolia
North Korea
Philippines
Vietnam
Save the Children aim to improve access to basic services such as healthcare
and education, preventing HIV/AIDS, providing support for disabled children
and setting up child protection systems.
Save the Children have focused on various areas throughout South East and
East Asia, including caring and supporting children who are at risk or are
affected by HIV/AIDS, preventing child trafficking and preparing and
responding to emergencies.
South and Central Asia
The majority of the problems that south and central Asia face are associated
with poverty and inequality. The gap between the rich and the poor is huge
and millions of families live below the poverty line, under terrible
conditions.
The region is frequently struck by natural disasters or affected by internal
and cross border conflicts. HIV/AIDS is on the increase throughout the whole
region and several countries are undergoing social and economic changes.

Save the Children focus on areas to help improve the standard of living and
prevention from diseases or death. Child labour and violence is a problem
within this area of the world and Save the Children aim to prevent or
protect children who are affected by it. Better access to education,
healthcare, and the welfare system is being addressed by Save the Children
believes that all children should have sufficient access to each. They also
are working on being better prepared for natural disasters and emergencies
to avoid deaths or other issues.
Middle East and North Africa
Save the Children have been working the Middle east and North Africa since
1949, today they support a wide variety of programmes in
Lebanon
Egypt
Morocco
Syria
Jordan
Palestinian territories
Save the Children have been working throughout the Middle East and Asia
aiming to protect children from the conflict that is occurring and giving
them easier and better access to education and health care. They also try to
ensure that children receive basic sanitation, electricity and safe drinking
water to survive.
Southern Africa
Save the Children works in six countries in the region:
Angola
Lesotho
Malawi
Mozambique
South Africa
Zimbabwe
Mozambique and Angola are both recovering from
civil war.
The major problems which are found in Southern Africa include:
HIV/AIDS- South Africa is said to have the highest infection rate in the
world
Poverty
Child neglect and abuse
Emergency preparation- especially in Zimbabwe
Save the Children introduce and develop programme which may improve
standards which are found in Southern Africa such as:
promoting child rights
child participation,
funding HIV/AIDS awareness and community-based care for those affected
training health workers,
capacity building for governments,
support for war-affected children including former soldiers,
research, emergency preparedness, and delivering food aid in humanitarian
crises.
West Africa
Save the Children works in :

Nigeria
Sierra Leone
The problems that West Africa faces stems from
Years of civil war,
human rights abuses,
massive population movements
chronic food
livelihood insecurity have devastated childrens lives in west Africa.
The conflict that occurs in West Africa has brought about brutality and
violence not only against civilians but also children, families continue to
strive through extreme conditions of poverty .
Save the Children focus upon :
preventing exploitation
violence,
improving health and education services,
preventing the spread of HIV/AIDS.
They also run a programme to protect displaced children and children who've
been separated from their families across the borders of Cτte dIvoire,
Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone.
