Northern Ireland
Northern Ireland suffers from the impact of the conflict which occurs there.
There are high levels of poverty, discrimination and some children do not
have proper access to healthcare or education.
Save the children focus on
Encouraging the government to give children the maximum available
resources
Stopping child poverty and ensuring that even poor children have access to
high quality public services, including education and health services
Encourage children and their participation in education
Ensure that children understand and recognise their role as citizens and
to get involved more
Partnerships that Save the Children have gained have supported and prompted
community action around these areas. They regularly involve children as ask
them to take an active role in their work and programmes.
Wales
Save the Children in Wales aims to ensure that children and young people get
the future that they deserve. Poverty in Wales and the well being of
children is among the worst in Europe, and Save the Children believes that
they can change this.
They try to help communities to see young people as the future generations
with ideas and answers rather than a burden to society.
Save the Children in Wales are supported by fundraisers, shop volunteers,
campaigners, speakers.
Scotland
There are various problems that young people and children face in Scotland,
including:
Access to healthcare
Housing
Education
Drug abuse
Teenage pregnancy
Discrimination
Save the Children are aiming to improve the lives of children and the
situations that they may be in. They have worked within Scotland for over 40
years, and have focused and challenged the way in which childrens rights
are infringed and raised awareness amongst children and young people as to
what their rights are.
