Resurfacing Grass Pitches

Installing turf in stadiums and other sporting venues is not simple. You require a complete understanding of the environment and the correct tools are required to ensure that the turf survives and the results required are delivered.
Because of these criteria SIS was chosen to replace pitches at Glasgow’s Hampden Park for the Champion’s League final, Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium for the FA Cup Final and the Six Nations Rugby Tournament.

What is re-turfing and why should we re-turf?
Re-turfing is the removal of the existing surface and replacing it with a purpose grown turf that is suitable for the sport, whether it be football, rugby, cricket, tennis or golf. The reasons for re-turfing is that the heavy use of modern stadiums does not allow turf to survive and many stadium owners see their playing surface as an asset that has to be kept in first class condition as stadium costs are rising and they need to utilise their facilities as much as possible.

SIS also provide advice and practical support on under pitch heating for playing surfaces in the winter, and irrigation for the summer together with ensuring the there is proper ground drainage.

SIS provides pitch maintenance programmes for professional clubs and this has enabled them to gain first hand knowledge of all aspects of ground maintenance.
