Bake
Ware
|
 |
 |
What utensils can I use in my bake ware?
Always use plastic or wooden utensils. Never use metal
utensils.
|
 |
What happens if the non-stick coating peels off and is
accidentally eaten by someone?
TEFAL non-stick coating offers resistance to all known
chemical products and is formulated not to chip or peel
under normal conditions of use. If the tins are not used
properly and particles from the coating are accidentally
ingested, there is no danger. These particles are not
toxic and almost totally inert, and will pass through
the body without being absorbed.
|
 |
How do I clean my bake ware?
When cleaning the non-stick interior, never use wire
wool, scouring pads or scouring powder. Instead, use a
sponge, hot water and washing-up liquid. If the bake
ware is cleaned in a dishwasher, re-oil it with cooking
oil before using again.
|
 |
Can I put my TEFAL bake ware in the dishwasher?
Yes, but cleaning them with a sponge and hot soapy water
should be enough. If you do use the dishwasher, wipe a
little oil over the non-stick coating after each dish
washing to protect the non-stick from the chemicals in
dishwasher detergents. |
Coffee makers
 |
What type of filter should I use?
You can use either a single use paper filter (which can
be obtained from most supermarkets) or a permanent
(nylon or metallic) filter. Both types can be found in
the shops.
|
 |
How do I descale my Coffee Maker?
It is important to descale your coffee maker every two
to four months depending on the number of times it is
used per day and the water hardness in your area.
If you are using a descaling powder or liquid, please
follow the instructions provided by the manufacturer of
the descaler.
If you use clear spirit vinegar, mix 2 cupfuls of
vinegar with 2 cupfuls of water, pour the cold descaling
solution into the tank remembering to put the jug in the
position and start up the coffee maker.
Stop the appliance once half has run through and leave
for about an hour. Start the coffee maker again and let
the rest of the solution run through. After descaling,
the appliance must be operated at least 2 or 3 times
with fresh water to rinse before re-using for coffee.
|
 |
Can I put my coffee maker jug in the dishwasher?
Yes. The glass jug, and the filter holder can be washed
in the upper basket of a dishwasher.

Non Stick Cookware
 |
What is TEFAL non-stick made of and how safe is it?
All non-stick coating contains PTFE, which is the
abbreviated name for a remarkable polymer called
polytetrafluoroethylene. The non-stick coating is not
attacked by acid or alkali bases and is very stable when
heated to temperatures of up to 400degC. Since in a
domestic kitchen the maximum temperature possible with a
pan is about 300 degrees C, there is no risk should a
pan be accidentally overheated. Health authorities in
France, Europe, United States and other countries have
approved non-stick PTFE coatings for use on cookware
because it is an inert substance, which does not enter
into chemical reactions with food, water or household
cleaners. If ingested it is totally innocuous in the
body. In fact, non-stick PTFE is so safe the medical
profession for coating heart stimulators uses it;
coating small pipes used as replacement arteries and has
even been injected into patients with serious kidney
conditions.
|
 |
Is TEFAL non-stick cookware oven proof?
Yes, up to 180 degrees C only for a maximum of one hour.
The pan can only be heated at high temperatures on a
hob. When placed in the oven the oven heat should be at
a maximum of 180 degrees C° even for a pan with
Thermo-Spot as it is the bakelite handles that cannot
withstand higher temperatures. The Thermo-Spot is only
an aid to frying – not to oven cooking.
TEFAL cookware should never be used in a microwave or
convection oven.
|
 |
How do you clean a TEFAL non-stick pan?
Cleaning by hand in hot soapy water is enough. The pan
must be cleaned each time it's used to remove the film
of grease that can stay on the surface. If the pan is
only wiped with a paper serviette or rinsed in water,
the film won't be fully removed and may cook the next
time you use the pan: stains may appear.
Non-stick pans must not be cleaned with scouring powders
or scouring pads. A nylon sponge is ideal for both the
interior and exterior of the pan.
|
 |
What do you mean by “Seasoning” the cookware?
Seasoning’ means to coat the cookware with a little oil.
Before the first use, wash the cookware thoroughly and
dry. Heat each pan on low for 30 seconds, remove from
heat and put one tablespoon of vegetable oil in each
pan. Rub the oil over the entire surface with a paper
towel. This process should be repeated if you use a
dishwasher. |
Toasters
 |
How do I get rid of the crumbs in my Tefal toaster?
Simply take your toaster to the bin or sink and open the
crumb tray at the bottom of the toaster. The crumbs will
fall out immediately. To remove crumbs that are stuck in
the toaster, shake the toaster well during cleaning.
|
 |
How should I clean my toaster?
The appliance does not need much maintenance. From time
to time, clean the outside with a damp cloth and a small
amount of washing up liquid.
Crumbs are collected in the base plate of the toaster
and should be occasionally removed by pulling out the
tray or opening the cover at the bottom of the
appliance, depending on the model.
Do not use any abrasive products or cleaners containing
alcohol. Only use mild and neutral washing up liquid.
|
 |
Can I toast crumpets & tea cakes?
Yes. Thanks to the thick'n'thin mechanism on all our
toasters and the super deep and super wide slots on our
new models, tea cakes and crumpets are toasted easily
without getting stuck. When toasting tea cakes all loose
currants should be brushed off before toasting.
|
 |
What is the best type of bread to toast in the TEFAL
toaster for all over toasting?
Standard square cut bread.
Remember that stale bread toasts faster than fresh
bread. Frozen bread takes longer. If a slice of bread
gets stuck, switch off the appliance and leave it to
cool. Unplug the appliance before attempting to remove
the bread. You can then remove the slice without the
risk of touching a hot element. Remember never to leave
a toaster unattended whilst in operation.

Steam irons
 |
I am using my iron for the first time and it does not
steam properly. What action do I take?
Because the iron as well as the Filterscale cassette
(depending on the model) is new, it takes a while for
the water to travel from the water tank through the
cassette to the steam chamber. Leave the iron plugged in
for five minutes and you can steam ahead!
|
 |
How do I prevent water drips on my fabrics?
Use the right temperature on the thermostat for the
right fabrics. The reason for the water drips is
probably too low a temperature that cannot convert the
water into steam. To avoid the risk of water drips
completely, make sure the thermostat is set on the
grey/shaded zone and wait for a few seconds between each
burst of steam.
|
 |
How do I prevent the steam holes of my Tefal iron from
clogging up?
Firstly, fill the iron tank to MAX with water. Set the
thermostat control to Max and the steam control on DRY
and switch on. Place the iron on its heel and leave to
heat up for around 5 minutes. Unplug the iron then hold
your iron horizontally above the sink. Remove the
anti-scale valve (or set the control to self-clean/auto
clean depending on the model). Steam, water and scale
deposits will leave the steam chamber through the steam
holes and the iron will be clean. You can also use your
vacuum to gently vacuum the holes of your iron.
|
 |
What water should I use in my Tefal iron?
Tefal irons are specifically made to use tap water. The
anti-scale features will clean the water properly.
Please do not use pure demineralised water, water from
clothes dryers, scented or softened water, water from
refrigerators, batteries or air conditioners, pure
distilled water or rain water as these may damage the
iron. These types of water contain organic waste,
mineral elements that become concentrated when heated
and cause spitting, brown staining or premature wear on
your iron. Furthermore softened water has had the
hardness taken out of it, e.g. minerals such as calcium
and magnesium, thereby reducing the rate of scale
forming. However, TEFAL irons rely on a degree of
scaling from ordinary tap water to coat the internal
steam chamber, this improves steam generation and helps
prolong the life of the soleplate.
In very hard water areas a mixture of 50% tap water and
50% distilled water can be used. |
Pressure Cookers
|
 |
My pressure cooker will not come to pressure.
Failure to develop pressure may be caused by any one or
more of the following:
|
|
- |
This
is normal for the first few minutes. |
|
- |
The
lid is not correctly closed. Refer to the booklet
for proper instructions on your model. |
|
- |
You do
not have enough liquid in the pot. At least 250 ml
(2 glasses) of liquid is required. Consult your
recipe for more information. |
|
- |
The
regulating valve is not placed correctly on the pipe
or the regulator is not in position 1 or 2
(depending on models). Refer to your instruction
booklet for the method used with your specific
model. |
|
- |
The
heat is too low. Always use high heat to bring the
cooker up to pressure. Once that has been done, and
you get a strong flow of steam, lower the heat
source to establish an even flow and start timing
from this point. All recipes require the heat source
to be lowered once pressure has been reached.
|
|
- |
The
locking indicator is stuck. This is a locking
indicator pin or pressure indicator (depending on
models) that rises when pressure builds inside the
cooker and drops when it is released. If it does not
rise, it may need to be cleaned. Refer to the
booklet for cleaning instructions for your specific
model. |
|
- |
The
gasket is not fitted properly, it is dirty, or it is
warped and needs to be replaced. Some models have a
peg inside the lid that lines up with a little hole
on the gasket. If the peg and hole are not lined up
properly it will affect the pressure. Always refer
to your booklet for gasket instructions. Gaskets
should be replaced annually. Also, check that the
rim of the pot is in good condition and the pot is
not warped. |

|
|
 |
What
should I do if steam escapes from around the lid?
Check that:
|
|
- |
The
lid is properly closed. |
|
- |
The
gasket is correctly positioned inside the lid.
|
|
- |
The
gasket is dirty. Clean it. |
|
- |
The
gasket is in good condition. Change it after 1
year’s use. |
|
- |
The
lid is damaged or dented. Change it. |
|
- |
The
lid, safety valve and pressure regulator valve are
all clean. |
|
- |
The
rim of the pan is in good condition.
|
|
 |
It
is impossible to close the lid or the lid is too stiff
to close.
|
|
- |
Check
the locking indicator pin is correctly positioned.
Remove and replace it, if necessary. |
|
- |
On
certain models only, check the position of the lock.
If it is in the forward position, hold the lid
horizontally and push on the lock until it is back
in. |
|
- |
If the
lid is stiff to close, wipe a little cooking oil
around the rim of the lid and pan.
|
|
 |
How
does it work?
|
|
- |
Fill
the cooker: minimum 250 ml of liquid, maximum 2/3 of
its height or even less (depending on type of food
and the recipe). |
|
- |
Close
the pressure cooker: all our pressure cookers are
designed so that if they are not properly closed the
pressure cannot build up. |
|
- |
Cooking: the pressure cooker must be placed on a
source of heat set to maximum. Then, within a few
minutes, it reaches a temperature of over 100°C
(110°C to 120°C depending on the type or the
position of the pressure regulator valve). The
pressure regulator valve allows the steam to escape:
the heat should then be turned down and the cooking
time calculated.
This operation allows an energy saving of up to 70 %
compared with conventional cooking in water. |
|
- |
End of
cooking, decompression: when the cooking time has
lapsed, the heat source must be turned off and all
the steam evacuated by putting the pressure
regulator valve to the steam release position. The
pressure cooker can now be opened.
For a quicker decompression, pass the pressure
cooker under the cold-water tap. |
