Shoulder Satchel

Materials

 - 3/4 yard of 45” wide, water-repellent or soft upholstery fabric
 - One pair of 1” D-rings
 - 20 inches of 3/4” wide hook-and-loop tape
 - 1 yard of 1” wide cotton or nylon strapping

Pattern

Develop the pattern using the grid provided in Figure 1 as a guide.

Cut and construct the satchel

1. Cut out the pattern twice, placing the pattern on the fold of the fabric.

2. Turn down the long straight edge (top of satchel) 1/2” on both pieces, and stitch in place close to the raw edge.

3. Place one part of the hook-and-loop tape along this folded edge (wrong side of fabric), and stitch in place. Repeat with the other side of the hook-and-loop tape on the other side of the satchel. Snaps or buttons may also be used as closures.

4.
With right sides together, straight-stitch around lower curved edge of satchel with a 1/2” seam allowance.

5.
Press both seam allowances to one side and topstitch in place.

6. Turn satchel right side out.

7. On each side of the satchel, stitch across the two narrow ends, wrong sides together, close to the raw edge.

8. Wrap each narrow end around a D-ring, and topstitch the raw edge to the satchel in order to secure the D-ring. Then wrap each end of the strapping around one of the D-rings and topstitch in place. (Figure 2)
