Colic

Colic is basically trapped wind in a baby's stomach that causes some pain. It is a very common problem in young babies and peaks at approximately three months of age. Babies often cry for long periods, without any apparent reason. They can go red in the face and will not respond to any comfort given. In many cases they draw their legs up in pain.

Colic will eventually disappear of its own accord and causes no lasting damage to your child.

What To Do

Consult a pharmacist. There are a number of herbal treatments for colic which may help.
You should also talk to your maternity nurse about changing the teat and other alternatives.
Medication is also available that breaks down the air in food ingested by babies - consult your doctor.
