Flatulence

All babies get flatulence to some degree. It can be caused by a number of factors. It occurs because babies swallow air through gulping to feed. That air becomes trapped in their intestine and causes discomfort and leads to colic. You can minimise the amount of air your baby intakes by holding them in the correct position; hold their head in the bend of your elbow and support their weight with the forearm of the same arm. Hold the bottle and feed your baby with the other hand.

Breast-feeding mothers should consider changing their diet to see if it has a positive effect. The baby's diet should also be considered and reviewed. There is medication freely available that helps to break down the air in foods. Also ensure you wind your baby properly.
