Food Poisoning
Food poisoning is normally caused by eating food contaminated with bacteria. The most common
ones are E.coli and salmonella. Symptoms can occur anytime during the following 24 hours and can
include vomiting, diarrhoea, severe stomach cramps, passing blood with stools and mild fever.
Remember that if there is any instance where someone is vomiting or suffering from diarrhoea it can
lead to dehydration - be aware.
You can reduce the likelihood of encountering food poisoning by:
-
Defrosting food properly before cooking.
-
Ensure food is cooked thoroughly.
-
Keep clean surfaces.
-
Wash your hands regularly.
-
Always return food to the fridge as soon as possible.
-
If reheating food, ensure it is hot throughout.
If a child does encounter food poisoning, they may suffer any of the symptoms listed above.
Be sure to give them lots of liquid, preferably water.
Consult your doctor immediately.
