SCHOOLS MISSING OUT ON MILLIONS

Schools could be missing out on millions of pounds in sports funding warns Football Foundation and Premier League Chairman Dave Richards.

Some of the facilities I have seen in schools are absolutely appalling” said Richards, “Thanks to our partnership with the New Opportunities Fund, £30m is available to build new changing rooms and renovate pitches. I would call on every school to contact us to see how we could help. Kids shouldn’t have to put up with waterlogged pitches or drafty old changing rooms, it’s not good for them or for the game and things have to change.”

Grants of up to £1m are available for new grass and artificial pitches, changing rooms, coaching schemes and maintenance programmes. The Foundation can also provide funding to keep facilities open after school hours for after school clubs and community use. They can even provide kit and equipment free of charge.

Richards called on schools to make the most of the funding available.

“Half of this money is going to schools in the most deprived areas of the country. If you have bad facilities at your school then get in touch and tell us about them – we’re here to help.”
