The Football Foundation, the UK’s largest
sports charity, has announced details of the Register of English Football
Facilities (REFF), the largest facility survey in British sporting history. This
unique report into the state of grass roots football has highlighted the poor
conditions faced by communities throughout the country. REFF will allow the
Foundation to proactively target funding in communities where facilities are in
need of improvement. |

Over 90% of pitches and changing rooms
throughout England have been assessed and mapped over the last two years and the
information is now available for the public to identify their local sites at
www.reff.org.uk. The data, gathered and will be used by the Foundation to
assess national and local priorities for investment in community facilities.
The survey reveals that the
44,958 pitches identified (38,091 of which were grass) in England have enough
white lines to stretch to Australia. The state of their disrepair, however, is a
cause for concern. Over 40% of pitch operators highlighted pitch drainage as
their top priority, whilst 38% reported having no changing rooms at their
facilities.
Does your school appear on
the reff website? If not tell us about the facilities you have including details
of your pitches and changing facilities – you could win a kit and equipment
voucher worth £300 or even apply for grants of up to £1m. What have you got to
lose.
