Few companies
know more about bespoke educational publishing than Boomerang
Ed. After seven years in the homework diary business, six of
them as market leader, they continue to represent the ideals
that school managers and bursars are continually striving to
find - good quality, unbeatable value and a commitment to the
environment.
Although often
known as ‘the diary company’, Boomerang actually offers many
more services to schools and colleges that range from yearbooks
and magazines, to prospectuses and newsletters. In fact, with
over 2,000 individual school customers, Boomerang is fast
becoming the largest supplier of personalised and bespoke
products to schools in the UK.
So, what is it that makes one-in-four secondary schools use
Boomerang’s products?

Undoubtedly,
value for money is a key driver, but there are other factors
too. A commitment to the environment is a vitally important one,
with (Forest Stewardship Council) chain of custody
certification meaning all Boomerang homework diaries are printed
on paper from well-managed forests.
Educational integrity is another. All content contained within
Boomerang Ed’s products must fall under one of their three
editorial values: Discovery, Creativity and Responsibility.
However, perhaps the most important factor is quality. Not just
in terms of the end product, but also in materials used,
production process and, of course, customer service.
School Diaries
School diaries remain Boomerang’s best selling product area,
with nearly a quarter of secondary schools now using the
Boomerang service, the strengths of which remain from when they
entered the market in 2000 - unbeatable in quality, service and
price.

The mainstream
diaries, the vibrant, interactive products that are used by over
one million Key Stage 3 & 4 students, are by far the most
popular of any diary in the UK. Of course, the colourful diary
is not for everyone and, in response to this, Boomerang has
launched the Classic Academic Diary, with more ‘white space’ and
no sponsorship. For even more independence in design, there is
the Freeform diary service, where schools can produce fully
bespoke planners with up to 176 pages of their own content.
The personalised pages are at the heart of any school diary, and
schools are taking full advantage of the opportunity to
communicate with their students by taking more pages for their
own use, and with the increased focus on individual learning,
these pages are becoming more important in the interaction
between school, student and home.

Yearbooks
From an educational point of view, the yearbook remains an
important part of school life. Not only does it offer a snapshot
of school life for a particular year or group of students, it
also provides those involved an opportunity to experience
real-life business situations and is often used as part of a
Young Enterprise scheme.

Boomerang also offers Expedition Books and Tour Books among its
portfolio of self-publishing products to schools, for those
returning from trips abroad and sports tours respectively.
Orders can be taken from a single copy upwards and now
everyone has the opportunity to publish their own memories, not
just the leavers.
Prospectuses and Marketing
Boomerang’s success in the personalised diary market has led
many of its customers to ask for other bespoke products of
equally good value and quality. The demand for prospectuses led
the company to develop a range of cost effective folders and
prospectuses, using a set of generic designs and materials. A
variety of paginations and formats are available, all of which
can be turned around and delivered within two weeks from
sign-off. There are limitless options of prospectuses and
marketing solutions, and Boomerang is fully capable of
fulfilling these, but for a simple, attractive and extremely
cost effective campaign, the range of generic marketing material
is a must.

Fundraising
Boomerang’s ever-increasing range of services has been
complemented this year with a new product area: their
fundraising initiative. The scheme can help schools to raise
money for various projects including Yearbooks, through the
selling of seasonal products to parents and friends.
Boomerang Ed are constantly developing their product range to
ensure it stays educationally robust, and they run continuous
research through focus groups with students and teachers to get
regular feedback .
They understand that the procurement practices in education,
like in all business, must demonstrate a commitment to
education, environmental sustainability and above all value for
money. You will find flexible solutions that can be tailored to
deliver you all of these important requirements while offering
you the financial advantages.
