The Clay Pigeon Shooting Association is the National Governing Body for Clay pigeon shooting in England. The CPSA in addition, is a member of the International Clay Pigeon Shooting Council of Great Britain and Ireland.

The CPSA’s main role is to promote and encourage the development of the Clay Pigeon Shooting and to insure that they have the support and communicate with the government department and the police. In order to control and develop all aspects of Clay Pigeon Shooting.

The other aims of the CPSA, is to promote and organise national competitions and to select a team to represent England in major international events, which might be organised by the CPSA. The CPSA also regulates the standards of safely and competitions at 450 affiliated and registered grounds around the country.

Clay pigeon shooting is a strongly supported sport that has over 25,000 CPSA members who participate at all levels, from shooting in farms and syndicated shoots in national or in international competitions. It is also seen as a hobby enjoyed by many different people from all kinds of backgrounds. The participants are aged from 9- 90 years old all either sex, however women and children participants are on the increase, which makes clay pigeon shooting a family orientated sport.

Membership is open to the public and offers an extensive package of benefits for the members, which might include insurance, magazines, info, advice, classifications etc.

Clay pigeon shooting is a form of shooting which involves shooting a flying target known as clay pigeons or clay targets shoot with a shotgun. The targets used for clay pigeon shooting are shaped in an inverted saucer, in chalk and pitch. In order to be strong enough to be thrown from the traps at high speeds and to be easily broken when hit.

Participants use shot guns, but if they have their own shotgun, they must have a certificate and a police inspection. Nevertheless, newcomers can borrow shotguns with supervision at many CPSA offer coaching. This allows newcomers to take part before they invest in a shotgun and security. As the minimum are required for clay pigeon shooting is about 15 hectares, including a safety zone in all directions of shooting.

So as you can see clay pigeon shooting is a very supported sport or hobby enjoyed by all, and the CPSA is the governing body who makes sure that the sport is regulated and that the participants are safe will shooting.
