Harbour Park was originally the site of the Arun Mill (formerly Cudlow Mill)The Mill stood here for some two hundred years and was used as a guide by mariners making for the port of Littlehampton. When Harbour Park was being refurbished one of the original mill stones was unearthed and can been seen in the Park by the Fantasy Ride.

The mill ceased working in 1913 and in 1930 the mill, its land and buildings were put up for sale. The site was bought by Billy Butlin and the first amusement park was built on the site. The Mill was demolished in 1931 by Butlins in order to extend the site.


     


The park was closed from 1941 to 1945 due to the 2nd World War. The buildings were used for storage and the billeting of troops before going overseas. During this time the buildings and the site suffered bomb damage. After the war the site was re-opened as part of the Butlin Holiday Camp empire.
 
In 1977 the present owners bought the site from the rank Organisation and set about turning it into the  park it is today, 

Sharkesville Golf is built on the site of an old Battery which was constructed in 1759-1760 in order to protect the harbour. It was dismantled in 1833 and the land was sold for coastguard use.


Harbour Park is now one of the premier amusement parks on the South Coast. There is a large variety of rides and amusements including the 7.5 metre high Log Flume. Perennial favourites like the Waltzer, Dodgems and Hic-Cup.

  

   

 

Enjoy the thrill of ice-skating on the indoor artificial ice-rink. It is sited adjacent to the Harbour Café in the main building. Relax and enjoy a cup of freshly ground coffee in convivial surroundings.

The Village Complex houses the marine themed Galley Restaurant. All meals cooked fresh at time of order and include locally produced cod, haddock and whitebait. The Restaurant also serves traditional tea made with leaves in tea pots and a selection of delicious cream cakes and pastries.


 


The sea borders the southern side of the park with the River Arun as its western boundary. There are large grassed picnic areas to the east of the Park with the historical Oyster Pond at its For the last 30 years on a day in June, Harbour Park throws opens its doors to the Variety Club of Great Britain. 2000 children from inner city areas come to the Park for a day of laughter and fun.
