Adaptation & Habitats
What is an animal habitat? What kind of habitats do
animals live in? How do they cope with the weather? How
do they find food? How do they escape their predators?
All these questions and more are answered through the
use of live animals and interactive tasks.
African Animals
Noah’s Ark has a wide variety of African animals. So
before and after this session there are lots of
opportunities to familiarise pupils with African
animals. The workshop focuses on where different animals
are located in Africa as well as looking at the various
habitats and regions that are found there. Pupils have
the chance to get hands-on with a selection of African
animals. Come and experience a taste of Africa!
Variation
There is huge variety in the animal kingdom. This
session introduces the concept of variation through fun,
interactive activities such as ’spot the difference’
between corn snakes!! Variation can only truly be seen
by being up-close and hands on with the animals. This
workshop offers exactly that! Pupils will learn how to
group living things according to similarities and
differences, from fur to feathers and skin to scales.
|
Lifecycles
With the use of live animals, children will be able to observe
differences and similarities between the stages of life. How
does a caterpillar undergo the transformation into a beautiful
butterfly? Students will explore the incredible changes animals
go through from babies to adults and learn about the different
types of parental care. From the soft jelly eggs of frogs to the
birth of chicks, students will examine the stages of growth and
learn of amazing and unique life cycles.
|
Storytime
This is a new feature we can offer for KS1 trips which
is a great relaxing time for younger children. The story
of Noah’s Ark provides cross-curricular links with the
local RE syllabus. We can also provide other animal
stories with the use of puppets to help capture the
magic. Using actions there will be a focus on animal
movements and mother and baby relationships. All this
can take place in our indoor classroom.
Animal Babies
Learn about different animal babies and how they’re
cared for. Meet some of our animals and discover how
they reproduce and how they look after their young. This
session displays how an animal’s needs are catered for
at different stages of it’s life and development. Come
and hold the newly hatched chicks as an ideal way to
reinforce workshop teaching.

Feeding Relationships
Pupils will learn about what types of food animals eat
and how they are suited to eating it. We establish that
animals need food for energy. Starting with ourselves as
consumers, pupils are involved in an interactive
activity constructing and recording food chains and
simple webs.
Using a selection of photos, pupils consider animals,
both familiar and exotic, in their natural habitat,
identifying food sources and establishing the concept of
foods chain showing energy flow originating from the
sun. |

|
Classification
A fantastic session to introduce your pupils to the animal
kingdom and the variation within it. An interactive session
which involves sorting animals into five vertebrate groups.
Invertebrates are also mentioned and discussed in further detail
with the older age groups.
Find out about classification, why we do it, how we do it and
have a simple introduction into using keys. Get up close to some
of our animals and discover how they are classified and why.
Conservation
This interactive session addresses conservation issues such as
habitat destruction, pollution and its effects on British
Wildlife, threats that animals face in the wild and what we can
all do to help. The workshop raises pupil awareness towards the
role that they can play in protecting and maintaining our
natural environment.
