Asset Skills is the Sector Skills Council for the places where we live and work. Our footprint covers the property, housing, cleaning and facilities management industries. Occupations within the sector are varied, and include:
 


• Chartered Surveyors
• Property Managers
• Estate Agents
• Facilities Managers
• Housing Officers
• Town Planners
• Cleaners
• Energy Assessor

Asset Skills’ remit is to raise productivity throughout the sector by developing new qualifications, conducting research into the skills needs of the sector and promoting opportunities for learning. Asset skills also take the lead for Skills for Life and literacy, numeracy and English for Speakers of Other languages.
 

Key Facts for the sector:

  • Employment concentrated in London, South East and East of England
  • 349, 425 people were employed in the property services and housing industry in the UK in 2004
  • 95% or organisations in the property/ housing industry employ between 1-10 employees
  • Facilities management workplaces increased by +42% between 1998 and 2004

 

Alongside the development of National Occupational Standards and qualifications, Asset skills aims to attract new entrants into the sector. By promoting the various occupations within the sector we are able to highlight the wide range of exciting and varied career opportunities that exist. Asset skills now has its very own careers website which can be viewed at www.findyourway.co.uk the website has been set up primarily for 14-25 year olds but is also useful across a wide range of audiences. The website contains information such as; a series of job profiles in the sector, details of where to go for more information, how to dress at interview and links to CV builders and checkers.
