How
we do it?
Our 8 Step end-to-end process selects and supports the
right people for the right jobs.
1) Attract
We attract teachers through advertising in the UK and internationally both
in print and from our website and making regular presentations at Teacher
Training Colleges and Universities, to plant the seeds for the future.
In addition we have a partnerships with some of the
largest teacher recruitment companies in Australia and Canada and manage
networking and a referral scheme where A* Star teachers can refer other
teachers.
2) Screen
A* Star Teacher’s strict screening and security checks ensure that all our
teachers are eligible and suitable to work in UK schools.
Teachers require:
-
Original or
certified copies of certificates for all tertiary qualifications including
teaching qualifications and degree/s. These are verified.
-
Overseas
trained teachers will have qualifications checked with National Academic
Recognition Centre (NARIC).
-
A CV or
resume. UK newly qualified teachers will also require a career entry
profile.
-
Two
professional referees. One of these must refer to the most recent teaching
post or teaching practice and the references must cover at least the last
two years working experience. We always follow up these referees and any
written references.
-
Evidence of
teacher registration. Overseas trained teachers must provide proof of
teacher registration with the appropriate domestic bodies and UK Teachers
will provide their DfES/GTC/GTCW reference number.
-
A medical
fitness to teach declaration.
-
Photographic
identification (usually passport) and birth certificate to confirm identity.
-
Overseas
trained teachers will have evidence of their right to work in the UK. We can
assist teachers in obtaining the relevant paperwork.
-
Police
clearance from Home country for overseas teachers and allow us to carry out
a criminal record check which includes List 99.
3)
Profile
Applicants assessed in a face-to-face interview to
ensure they are professional capable, enthusiastic and committed. Basically
that they have the right stuff! Interviews are carried out by former
headteachers, inspectors or highly trained consultants. We also
professionally assess and profile each teacher’s ability, fluency, knowledge
and understanding planning and classroom management.
4) Match
This profiling assists in more effective matching of
teachers to posts, for all specialisms and key stages. This is the first
direct exposure of short-listed candidates to schools. Some of the vacancies
presently available appear on our website.
5) Induction
A Star runs a comprehensive induction programme each
term for new teachers. In addition, twilight training is scheduled
throughout the year. This programme includes key areas such as national
literacy, numeracy and curriculum standards in addition to professionalism
and behaviour management.
6) Support
In addition to training our Professional Development
Consultants provides support for our teachers at a classroom level, and can
assist in preparing the teachers for QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) where
required.
At a non-professional level, apart from excellent pay
we offer advice and assistance on accommodation, banking, tax and payroll,
healthcare, work permits and, of course, the hectic social life. We offer
guidance on cultural familiarisation, social networking, travel and
generally playing hard.
7) Development
We develop and review individual personal action plans
and development programmes continuously. These take into account feedback
from the school and a report is prepared for the head teacher. Additional
in-service training is provided on top of the normal courses.
8) Appraise
Our professional consultants will visit teachers
in-class to check planning, observe teaching, offer on-going constructive
feedback against their personal objectives. They will help the teacher to
compile a professional portfolio and prepare for the final QTS assessment.
We take out the hassle leaving senior managers free to manage their schools.
