* carry out world class research into cancer
* develop better treatments for cancer patients
* improve the quality of life of cancer patients
* reduce the numbers of people getting cancer
* improve training and support of cancer research workers
* provide authoritative information and advocacy on cancer.

CANCER INFORMATION
Our website provides easy to understand information about cancer. We have overviews of 27 specific cancers - including details on screening, signs and symptoms, detection and treatment - and important information about how to reduce your risk. We also have a much more detailed patient information website called CancerHelp UK

OUR PUBLICATIONS
We produce a variety of publications. Our cancer awareness leaflets are written in plain English and can be downloaded from our website as PDF files. Our booklet entitled "Help A Friend To Stop Smoking"  is designed to help secondary school students give support and help to a friend or relative who would like to stop smoking. It can be used in the curriculum in Personal, Health and Social Education (PHSE) and Science, at a lunchtime or after-school 'Stop smoking!' club, or by students working on their own.

VOLUNTEERING AND EVENTS
We are always pleased to hear from people who would like to volunteer with us. There are opportunities for helping out in one of our offices or high street shops. Alternatively, you could support one of our fundraising events. We run a wide variety of activities, ranging from balls, fashion shows and quiz nights to abseils, bike rides and our hugely popular Race for Life events. You could take part in one of our organised events, set up one of your own, or just come along to help out on the day. Whatever type of volunteering you choose to do, you can develop valuable skills and make new friends, as well as helping us raise money for vital research into cancer.

AWARENESS MONTHS
Cancer Research UK supports a series of awareness months throughout the year. For example, Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October and Children's Cancer Awareness Month in December. We develop a website to accompany each campaign, where you can learn more about the disease and prevention as well as fundraising, media coverage and our merchandise.

JOB VACANCIES AND GRADUATE TRAINING SCHEME
We have a wide range of job opportunities at Cancer Research UK, in the field of scientific research as well as in disciplines such as Marketing, Human Resources and Public Relations. Our website lists current vacancies and also offers information about our graduate training schemes.

THE GEOGRAPHICAL AREAS WE COVER
Cancer Research UK carries out research and fundraising across the whole of England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Our website includes information about our research centres and activities in your area.
