
ChatAbility,
set up in August 2000, is an Independent Speech and Language Therapy
Consultancy providing assessments and treatment for different
communication problems arising from a variety of conditions which children
can have. It provides also assessment and training for children as well as
for those who work with them who use either high-tech communication aids
or low-tech communication systems such as symbol books and boards.
ITAbility,
set up in 2001, is a division of ChatAbility which specialises in
alternative ways of accessing a PC and Apple Macintosh computers.

Learning Station:
designed by an engineer whose son has Autistic Spectrum Disorder, the
Learning Station is an integrated desktop console with built-in
touchscreen, tracker ball with right and left click buttons for right or
left handed children. It has also a 5 CD-changer and is very robust. It is
designed to counteract the tendency of some children to throw computers
off the table or be more interested in cables than working on the activity
at hand;

operate a Windows computer by eye movement;
ScanBuddy:
operate a Windows computer using one or two switches;
On-screen
keyboards:
using REACH Interface Author, design any type of on-screen keyboard from 2
keys to 128 keys with graphics or sound or use one of the 100s of
predesigned keyboards;
Specialised foot pedals, keyboards, mice, trackballs: a
range of hardware to give access to a computer if the person has limited
movement, tremor or poor upper limb control;
Boardmaker and Speaking Dynamically Pro:
make up symbolnboards and speak them out;
Cause
and Effect Software:
basic cause and effect software and software to teach early cognitive
skills such as Old MacDonald’s Farm and Monkeys Jumping on the Bed.
