City and Guilds need no
introduction, as they are currently the leading vocational awarding body
in the UK. They award almost half of all National Vocational
Qualifications (NVQs) and are also a global organisation providing unique
internationally recognised qualifications across the world through City &
Guilds International.
City and Guilds have been
encouraging education and training in and for the workplace since 1878.
They are a charity and in 1900 were granted a Royal Charter to provide the
means and motivation for individuals, corporations and communities to
achieve their goals.
In order to identify and
then provide training in the skills needed to support the UK economy, City
and Guilds have established close links with industry, government and
training organisations.
There are more than 8,500 approved City &
Guilds centres scattered across the globe, offering qualifications in
almost all sectors – from agriculture to hairdressing. The organisation
also provide a range of office-based and management qualifications through
the Institute of Leadership & Management (ILM).
The City and Guilds website
provides a regularly updated ‘news’ area, keeping its learners up to date
on information about jobs and training schemes.
