The Indoor
Rower
The Concept 2 Indoor Rower is the most successful and sophisticated
piece of weight bearing fitness equipment on the market for cardio
vascular and strength training. Its proven, robust design has evolved
during twenty-five years of use worldwide. The Indoor Rower is
virtually maintenance free and with minimum regular attention will
last a lifetime. The Concept 2 Indoor Rower allows you to row as hard
or as easily as you wish, making it an extremely versatile machine
that can be used by people of all ages and fitness levels. |

|
PM3 Monitor
The key to the Indoor Rower is the revolutionary Performance Monitor.
Unique amongst fitness machines, the Performance Monitor offers a wide
range of functions for both the beginner and expert. It's a small computer
module with a clear display that shows aspects of your rowing whilst you
row - giving you instant feedback. It can be set for you to row a distance
or time and shows calorie use and watts generated. You can record and
later retrieve you past rowing profile by using a chipped log card and
store this for further analysis with software on your PC. There are many
possibilities for integrating PE with IT and managing your training data.

Indoor Rowing
In Schools
Schools first acknowledged their value over fifteen years ago - with
many more Indoor Rowers bought in recent years. Significant expansion
has come over the last twelve months with the Steve Redgrave Trust
providing £100,000 worth of Indoor Rowers for twenty Birmingham
Schools. Glasgow, Cardiff and Sandwell will soon be enjoying similar
facilities during the next school year. And behind the success of
Indoor Rowers integrated into whole school activities are the
comprehensive education and training resources provided by Concept 2.

|
Although the Indoor Rower tends to be initially used within the PE and
sports department it fits well within other departments, and has exciting
benefits for other subject areas, for example: IT, Science and Maths. For
more information on how to integrate the machine into different curriculum
areas, checkout the PowerPoint presentations
here which deal with cross-curricular use and
specifically with how the machine can be used as part of an ICT programme.
The Schools section of the Concept 2 website -
www.concept2.co.uk/schools - has lesson plans,
competitions, distance awards, monthly challenges and interactive
personalised training programmes. All these resources are written by
experienced education professionals who understand what teaching staff
need to cater for the requirements of young people in both primary and
secondary schools.

Schools
Training Guide
The Concept 2 Schools Training Guide is an essential resource for
anybody wanting to use the Indoor Rower in a school. As well as
detailed information on technique and how to use the Indoor Rower in a
safe and constructive fashion, the Guide also covers all aspects of
indoor rowing in schools, from how to integrate the rowing machine
into different areas of the curriculum, on how to use it to establish
competitions and leagues, to detailed lesson plans, to how to raise
money using the Indoor Rower and much more. |

Testing
A heart rate monitor can be used to correlate your training zones. A wide
range of tests are available appropriate for Year groups with Key Stage
outcomes. Later this year the "Healthy School" is central to the Ofsted
school self-assessment. Using the Indoor Rower fully underpins these
holistic targets which reflect more exercise, the curbing and reduction of
obesity, much more regular activity and a healthy heart. The Indoor Rower
is ideal for PE module study for GCSE and AS/A2 examinations.
Fundraising
One popular use of the Indoor Rower is as a fundraising activity.
Edgbaston High School For Girls recently raised over £30,000 with a 6-hour
rowathon. There are dozens of different ways you can use the rowing
machine to raise money, either for your school or for charity.

Schools League
The Schools League is a national tournament in which boys and girls race
in year group teams in relay format on one Concept 2 Indoor Rower. Teams
race in their own school, submit their results via the website and entry
is absolutely free. Round by round and overall results are then available
for the separate year group leagues within a day of each round closing.
The tournament consists of 6 rounds from September to March. Each round
has a different race format and a team doesn't need to consist of exactly
the same rowers in all rounds.
Entry to the School Indoor Rowing League is free, and you can join at any
point. You can find out more at
