Deep Sea World Welcomes
Schools
With 4 new Learning Labs available this year Deep Sea World’s
educational offering is more exciting than ever. In 2008 we are
supporting the ‘Year of the Frog.’ This campaign in association with the
World Association of Zoos and Aquariums focuses on the threat of
extinction facing many of the world’s amphibians. We are happy to
incorporate information about this important work and the breeding work
Deep Sea World does on site into any of our tours, or Learning Labs.

Our Learning
Labs, guided tours and interactive handling sessions have been
specifically designed to support and enhance the work you do in
the classroom and are linked to various themes covered in the
National Curriculum and in accordance with ACE topics.
At Deep Sea World we take a proactive approach to learning and
can accommodate all ages and levels. We aim to communicate our
enthusiasm for the natural world and educate through
inspiration. With a strong focus on the environment and our role
in it we hope to encourage your students to change the way they
see the world.
Building on the successful introduction last year of Pre and
Post Visit activities we have developed several new supports for
teachers including risk assessments, letters to parents and
partnerships with coach companies to make your visit as easy to
plan as possible.
Our materials are just one way we help you to plan your visit.
We will work with you to tailor make a visit that is simple to
plan for you and exciting, educational, and memorable for your
students.

Having learned
about our amazing oceans your pupils will be eager to meet
aquatic creatures up close with handling sessions in Our Rock
Pool. The Rock Pool is home to the many varieties of sea
creatures that live in British coastal waters. These rocky
shores are one of the harshest environments for marine life.
See how these hardy creatures have developed defenses against
weather and predators alike.

Deep Sea World is
Scotland’s national aquarium. Our underwater safari is the UK’s longest
underwater viewing tunnel. Above this is a giant 4.5 million litre tank
home to one of Europe’s largest collections of sand tiger sharks. Come
and watch divers feed these incredible animals by hand!
There are also more than 2,000 other amazing animals from all over the
world including frogs, Stonefish, Lionfish, rays and Clownfish. From
Amazonian pirahnas to the deadly creatures now living amongst the ruins
of Krakatowa the aquarium offers an exciting glimpse beneath the World’s
Seas.
The aquarium is located just 20 minutes from Edinburgh city centre,
underneath the famous Forth Rail Bridge and is the perfect place to keep
kids of all ages entertained.
Your visit to Deep Sea World will challenge and engage your students
while providing a fully supported educational experience for you
resulting in greater understanding of the scientific and environmental
topics required by the National Curriculum.
Early booking is the best way to ensure that you get your desired dates
particularly over the busy May/June period.
